Car in Jar Snow Globe – Mason Jar Christmas Craft.
I realize we’re only a few weeks into Fall. I realize we still have Halloween crafts in mason jars to make. I realize we still have Thanksgiving crafts in mason jars to make. But can you forgive me for jumping ahead to Christmas …
just this one time?
Because, quite honestly, I don’t think I can wait a moment longer before sharing my latest car in jar snow globe. I searched high and low for this vintage red Volkswagen Beetle (finally found some on eBay). And that red woody station wagon (could only snag 3 on eBay but hoping to find more to stock at my Etsy).
MATERIALS USED & SOURCES*
Let’s start with the sources and links for materials I used to make this car in jar snow globe. I have to admit that I spent two weeks searching for the Volkswagen Beetle and Ford Country Squire Station Wagons with Wood Panels. I found mine on eBay but wiped out the stock at each seller. However, here are the specific details about the vintage cars I used in my snow globes:
Cars
Volkswagen Beetle: Greenlight Diecast 1:64 Club V-Dub 49 VOLKSWAGEN TYPE 1 SPLIT WINDOW BEETLE Red
Woody Station Wagon: AUTO WORLD MUSCLE WAGONS 1964 FORD COUNTRY SQUIRE Red 1:64 scale
Here’s a link to 1:64 diecast vintage cars on Amazon
Mason Jars
Ball Collection Elite Pint (16-oz.) Wide Mouth Jars (comes in set of 4)
Bottle Brush Trees, Snow, Jingle Bells
All craft stores carry these items seasonally. However, you can also find them on Amazon at the following links:
Baker’s Twine
You can find this at craft stores and also on Amazon at this link.

How To Make A Car In Jar Snow Globe
Cut the bottom plastic piece off bottle brush tree using wire cutters.
The windows on the Volkswagen Beetle do not open. So I wrapped the Baker’s twine around the car. I started by taping the twine to the bottom of the car.
Wrap the twine twice around the car to attach the tree.
And tie a knot to secure tree on top of car.
Add some faux snow on the bottom of the mason jar.
Add car with tree tied to top.
Wrap some twine around the canning lid and tie on some jingle bells.
And you’re done.
For the Ford station wagon, I was able to feed the twine through the front window.
I’m also selling these Car in Jar Mason Jar Snow Globes at my Etsy shop. The Beetle can be found by clicking here.

Adorable! I love the idea of the car and tree. I made those jars last year as gifts but used woodland animals with the trees. They were a hit. So easy!
nancy says
Do you glue the tires to the bottom of he jar?
Linda says
No, I didn’t glue to car to the bottom.
Kelsi says
How did it stay then when you shook it up? Or is it not an actual snow globe with water? Haha
Linda says
LOL! These snow globes are not to be shaken. Or stirred! They are water-less! 🙂
jill says
I really love this! I hope I can find some cute cars like yours! I think I’m going to glue the car to the bottom; the thought of them rolling kind of puts me on edge. Do you think a hole could be drilled into the window and the baker’s twine threaded through with a needle? I mean, seriously, how did those people get out of their car? 😉 Love it love it love it..
Linda says
You could try to drill a hole! And thanks so much. I, too, wonder how those teeny tiny people go in and out! 🙂
Midge says
What is the snow made from?
Linda says
It’s just plastic pieces (I think). I bought it at Michaels.

This looks so cute. Can’t wait to try it!!!
Erika says
Hi! Are you going to make more this year to sell at you etsy store? Let me know, I would love to get one! Thanks!
Linda says
I actually do have cars and trucks up for sale at the Etsy shop. Here’s the link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/dropclothdesignco?ref=hdr_shop_menu§ion_id=20263407

This is the cutest, most whimsical, vintage looking craft ever! Thank you! I’m going to have my very boy heavy class make these! The girls can do woodland animals! They won’t be as awesome as the classic cars, which I may buy for myself, but cute!
Linda says
Such a great idea! Enjoy! 🙂
Mihaela Echols says
AAAAHH! I love it so cute and tiny!
Maureen says
But they aren’t really snow globes, since you can’t shake them. I guess if you glued them to the bottom and added some sort of liquid, the snow would get all caught on the tree. Too bad
kimberly ann persad says
What size are the bottle trees?
Linda says
They measure about 2 1/2″ with the snowy base and about 2″ when I cut that off before tying to the car. Hope that helps! 🙂
Mary says
Your snow globes are real pretty and the cars a great idea, thank youfor sharing.
Deborah says
Hi! Are the 1:64 cars the only ones that can fit in the 16 oz jars?
Linda says
I find they are the best size for the jars I use.
Tammie says
What size jar did you use?
Linda says
I included that in the blog post along with a link. It’s a special elite pint.

Love this! Such a cute idea. I was lucky enough to find a whole box of miniature cars at a rummage sale this past summer. I bought them because there was a Volkswagon Bus included that reminded me of my childhood. Thought they would be cute in miniature gardens. That was BEFORE I saw your cute idea. I purchased mini mason jars last night so I can make these for table decorations at our community center. Thanks so much for sharing this idea.
Linda says
I’m going to have to visit some rummage sales in search of little cars!!! I find it more and more challenging to find the ones I want at a price that is affordable! Garage sales sound like a good opportunity! 🙂
Julie says
Try your local St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. In the toy section you may find a miniature car, in the craft section, any miniature or in the Christmas section you may find small ornaments you like.
Stella says
Buongiorno. …..all’interno del barattolo si mette acqua distillata opure un liquido oleoso?
Linda says
I don’t put any liquid in the jars. They are water-less snow globes.
Alison says
So cute, love it 🎄

I found sets of 5 small cars in the party favour section in Kmart Australia. Don’t know if America has Kmart?Maybe some similar shop. The set had a red volkswagon.Have just made one for my brother-in-law .Love it!
Linda says
Oh, yes, we have Kmart! Not sure if it started in US or Australia, but am thinking US! I’m stunned you found red Volkswagen! I’m jealous! Can’t find any reasonably prices ones here in the states anymore. Love that you made one for you BIL! 🙂
