Stars & Stripes Mason Jars – Patriotic Red White Blue Mason Jars.
It’s hard to believe that in just two months times, it will be Memorial Day. The official kick-off for summer. The official kick-off of barbecue season …
and the official kick-off of the red, white, and blue holiday season!
First Memorial Day. Followed by Fourth of July. And rounding out the season, Labor Day … the trifecta of red, white & blue!
To get ready for the summer of red, white, and blue, I’ve created some stars & stripes mason jars. These could make a perfect centerpiece filled with flowers. Or use this pint-size set to hold utensil …
Here’s the detailed tutorial on how to make your own. And if you prefer to just purchase a set, you can visit my Etsy shop here.

I started by giving the jars two coats of Zinsser primer. (You can also use white acrylic craft paint; I find the primer adheres better to the jars and there is less paint “pick-up” during the taping off portion of this tutorial).
After drying for 24 hours, I taped the jars around the middle using washi tape.
I painted the top half with blue acrylic craft paint in matte finish. I just used one coat. If you want more coverage than this, give them two.
After they dried for 24 hours, I taped off the stripes. The center piece around the jar lines up with the bottom edge of the blue.
Paint the taped off area with red craft acrylic paint in matte finish.
Once dry, remove tape. I then took a small straight edge paint brush and touched up the stripes with white acrylic craft paint in matte finish.
For the stars, I made my own stamp using adhesive foam stars (found at craft store in the children’s section) and a wine cork.
And I stamped white stars on the blue tops using white acrylic craft paint in matte finish. I also touched up the stars a bit with a fine tipped paint brush.
I finished it all off with some distressing. I used 60 grit sandpaper and rubbed along the raised edges and a few random spots on the tops and bottoms of the jars …
And now your ready to share your patriotic pride on Memorial Day. And the Fourth of July. And Labor Day …
and every day of the year!
