Bath Salts: Lavender Mint – Homemade Bath Salts Recipe.
Nothing says I love you mom on Mother’s Day like a homemade gift of lavender mint scented bath salts …
packaged nice and pretty in a mason jar, of course.
And, no, this gift doesn’t say, Mom you smell stinky and need to take a bath. Pronto.
Nope. Not at all. This talking bath salts gift says, Mom I love you so much that I want you to pamper yourself with a nice, hot steaming lavender and mint scented tub. And, yes, please let me pour you another glass of wine …
🙂
This mason jar project is so easy you can whip it up in 10 minutes. Tops.
lavender mint bath salt recipe*
Lavender Paper & Ribbon
1 1/2 cups Epsom salt
1/2 cup Baking Soda
4-5 drops lavender oil
2-3 drops peppermint oil
15-20 drops lilac soap colorant (optional)
*some affiliate links included.
In a large bowl, mix Epsom salt and baking soda. Add 4-5 drops of lavender oil. Mix well. Add 2-3 drops peppermint oil. Mix well. (Optional) Add 15-20 lilac soap colorant until reach desired color.
All that’s left is to package it up in a mason jar. I cut out a piece of lavender paper to fit the wide mouth lid (just trace the lid onto a piece of paper) and added a small wood scoop, lavender ribbon and faux lavender sprig.
Oh, and be forewarned, this gift will elicit many, many hugs and kisses from mom.
🙂
Happy Mother’s Day!
P.S. I found the lavender oil and soap colorant at Michaels
P.P.S. My wood scoop came with a canister set, but I found a selection here on Amazon (click here)

Lovely post! I adore bath salts a lot. I also love the smell of lavender. This would make a great DIY gift idea as well!

Very cute! Where did you find the spoons?
Linda says
You know what, they came with a canister set I use for flour and sugar ans such. You might check Etsy. That’s where I typically find unique things!

Where can I get the colorant?
Linda says
I found mine at Michael’s craft store. But I’m sure you can find it at any craft store.

How long can this be stored? Does it go bad? Does it have a shelf life?
Thanks!
Linda says
I have noticed that the Epsom salts can start to clump, especially if there is moisture in the air. But they can easily be broken apart and will still work. So I’m guessing it could have a very long shelf life. I wouldn’t know. My daughter loves baths and uses these up faster than I can make them! 🙂

My friend when making bath salts layers it on a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and bakes at 250 for 15 min-stir every 5 min
then lets cool and puts in airtight jars-this prevents clumping
Pam says
Can I use dried lavender?
Linda says
I honestly am not sure? Sorry!

This would make perfect Christmas gifts! How much should you put in each bath? 🙂
Linda says
I’m thinking about a tablespoon or two. Depends how much fizz you want! 🙂
Elliott says
How much do you use per bath? It’s probably to each their own but is there a minimum starting point?
Linda says
I’m not really sure – perhaps a tablespoon or two per bath? My daughter is the bath expert! I’m all about the shower. 🙂

Hello!! for your “Lavender mint salt bath” could I use epson lavender salt instead of just normal epson salt for this recipe? or do you think it would be too lavender-y then?
thanks!
Linda says
Absolutely! And you might not need the lavender scent then … or you could use less.
