Rainbow Striped St. Patrick’s Mason Jar – St. Patrick’s Mason Jar Crafts – St. Patrick’s Day Craft Ideas
So I was curious about the whole rainbow St. Patrick’s Day connection.
Sure I know the legends of those tricky little leprechauns who liked to hoard gold. And sure I knew the folklore that if you catch one they’re forced to tell you where they hid their hoards of gold.
And here’s where those little green-hatted tricksters were their most trickiest of tricky. They would tell their captors the pot of gold could be found at the end of a rainbow.
Impossible to find!
They truly were master tricksters!
But still … what’s the connection to the actual St. Patrick’s Day celebration?
This is when I turned to Google.
Turns out St. Patrick’s Day is about more than bar crawls and green shamrocks drawn onto one’s face and green beer.
There’s an actual Saint – you know the “St.” part of St. Patrick’s – tied to the day’s celebration.
And that Saint viewed the rainbow as God’s promise to never again flood the world.
Remember that whole flood and ark and the two-by-two animal thing?
So that’s the connection. St. Patrick wasn’t searching for gold. He just wanted some assurances that there would be no more devastating floods.
Fair enough. I can toast old St. Patrick with a mug of green beer to that!

Instructions
Start with two coats of primer (this is my current favorite). Let dry overnight between coats.
Use 10 mm washi tape to tape off your rainbow stripes.
Paint each stripe. I ended up giving them two coats each, allowing drying time between coats, for a more vibrant jar.
Remove tape. As you can see, some paint bled through and touch-ups will be needed.
I distressed the jar first before using a thin paint brush and white paint to touch up the stripes (sorry, but I don’t have a picture of that!).
Finish the jar with a coat of matte spray sealant (this is my current favorite brand).
