Stocking Stuffer Ideas: Mini Mason Jar Christmas Clay Dough
The stocking stuffer. For some, an afterthought. A burden …
For others? An adventure. A challenge. An opportunity to stretch your creative muscles.
I fall into the latter group.
So when the folks at Ball Canning contacted me to see if I’d like to come up with some stocking stuffer ideas for their new mini mason jars, I was all over it. I mean, look how cute these 4 ounce Mini Mason Jars are …
How could I resist?
So I decided to create some fun Christmas Clay Dough. These 4 ounce jars are the perfect size to hold the clay dough … and the perfect size to fit in the stocking!
How To Make Christmas Clay Dough
Materials/Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 Tbsp Cream of Tartar
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 cups boiling water
20-40 drops red & green food coloring
Large mixing bowl & spoon
Gloves
Step 1: Mix together dry ingredients in large bowl. Create a well in the middle of the bowl for addition of wet ingredients.
Step 2: Pour in the 2 Tbsp of olive oil into the well.
Step 3: Pour in 2 cups of boiling water.
Step 4: Stir together immediately. Once mixed, let sit for 10-15 minutes to cool down.
Step 5: Using your hands, kneed dough to mix thoroughly. Separate into three equal sized balls.
Step 6: Using your thumb, make a hole in middle of dough. This is where you’ll be adding the food coloring.
Step 7: Add 20-40 drops of food coloring. The amount will vary on the brand of food coloring you use. I used McCormick brand and ended up adding 40 drops of red and 30 drops of green.
Step 8: Using your hands, gently fold the dough onto the food coloring and then knead color through dough. (I suggest wearing gloves for the mixing and kneading)
Step 9: Put dough into Mini Mason Jars.
Step 10: Play!
And that’s it!
These Ball Canning Mini Mason Jars are just the cutest and offer so many fun stocking stuffer and storage ideas! I can’t wait to play with them again!
