Carrot Mason Jars – How to Paint Carrots on Mason Jars – Easter Craft Ideas – Easter Mason Jars
Can we talk about the whole carrot/Easter thing?
Because somewhere along the line carrots and Easter became intertwined.
I know, I know. It’s all because of the bunny.
And don’t even get me started about how Easter and a bunny became intertwined! ๐
After a quick Google, turns out that rabbits don’t naturally eat or seek out root vegetables like carrots.
Hmmm …. very interesting.
Also turns out that, while rabbits may like the taste of carrots, they should be consumed in moderation (for those home-owning rabbit owners). They’re high in sugar and should be relegated to an occasional treat.
Hmmm … very interesting.
So how did the rabbit/carrot thing come about?
Turns out the blame(?) lands squarely on Bugs Bunny.
Yes, it’s true. A cartoon rabbit has been perpetuating the rabbit/carrot myth.
Unbelievable!
And while I’ve offered a little myth-busting today, I couldn’t help myself by creating a carrot mason jar for Easter.
Or anytime of the year, for that matter.
Personally I enjoy carrots year round! ๐

Instructions
Start with two coats of white paint. I used chalked paint but you can use a white acrylic craft paint. I let the coats dry overnight.
Once dry, use 80 grit sandpaper to distress along the raised lettering and edges of jar.
Since I used chalk paint, I used a swiffer to clean off the chalk paint dust.
Create a dot of orange with your paint brush.
Use a toothpick to pull the paint down to create a carrot shape with a pointed end. Dip toothpick in paint as needed to add more paint to the carrot.
Use a fine tipped paint brush (or toothpick) to create carrot greens.
Use a toothpick and a darker orange paint to create veining on the carrots.
Once dry, finish with a coat of matte finish spray (this is my preferred brand).
