Psst.  I’ve got a secret to share with you …

but you have to promise to keep it quiet.

Because if my other mason jars caught wind of what I’m going to tell you, they might just create an uprising …

or, worse still, shatter into a million little pieces.

You see, I’ve grown quite fond of this 1 1/2 pint mason jar from Ball Canning (you can find it here …)

And, dare I say it, it may even be my current frontrunner favorite among all the amazing mason jar shapes and sizes …

Though, to be fair, the classic pint-sized jar is the jar that started all this crazy mason jar crafting.  So it will always hold a special place in my heart.

But this 1 1/2 pint sized jar has been fun to play with for the holidays.  Like yesterday’s mason jar cookie jar.  And today’s Candy Cane mason jar …

How To Make A Candy Cane Mason Jar

Step 1: White Paint

Give the jar two coats of white paint.  I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White.  But you can use acrylic paint from the craft store.

Let it dry overnight.

Step 2: Washi Tape

Tape off the candy cane stripes.  I started at the bottom and wound up on the diagonal.

Step 3: Red Paint

Paint with red paint.  I used acrylic paint from the craft store.

Let it dry overnight.

Step 4: Touch Up Paint

While I had planned to distressed the jar, when I removed the washi tape it also pulled off white paint.

More than I wanted to be distressed.  So I touched up with the white paint.

Step 5: Sand & Seal

I used some sandpaper to distress.

And then sprayed with an acrylic sealer/finisher in a matte finish (I found mine at the craft store).

Now you can see why this mason jar has captured my creative crafting heart!
